Moxli Services - Process

Are you ready to have a professional and exciting website? With a professionally designed website, you are no longer amateur. Expectations of professionalism, service, care, etc. all come into a user’s mind. If you’re ready, so am I. Here we go!

Step 1: The Proposal (free!)

Initially, we’re both are going to want to know how much this Web Design Project is going to cost and how long it’s going to take. That’s where I need to know a bit about you and what you’d like to put together. So let’s sit down together over a nice cup of coffee (my treat!) or, if you’re not local, talk over the phone. We’ll go over the following:
  • What is your business?
  • Do you have an existing website or is this a new one?
  • Do you have a hosting facility or will you be moving? Do you need assistance getting a hosting facility or a domain name?
  • Who are your users (special users may require special browser needs)?
  • What are you goals for the website? Short-term? Long-Term?
  • What does your site need to accomplish? Information? Education? Selling?
  • How many pages are you thinking of publishing?
  • Do you have artwork?
  • Do you have content written? Will you need some assistance with it?
  • Do you need a logo created?
  • Do you need to sell products (e-commerce) on your site?
  • What websites do you like? Why do you like them?
  • Are there layouts you like? Color schemes? Logos? Links? Menus?
  • What’s your timeline?
  • Will you need ongoing support?

Understand that the more information you give me, the less re-working will have to be done. This translates to lower costs and quicker turn around. Most people have some idea of a vision for their website and the more you can articulate this to me, the better.

After this process of information gathering, I will present to you within 48 hours a proposal for the website cost and the timeframe involved. The estimates are good for 30 days and I guarantee to stay within 10% of the estimate.

Step 2: The Design Phase (or “let’s take another meeting, shall we?”)

You’ve taken the deep breath and put your web design faith in Moxli (bless you!). Now it’s time to get to the real fun stuff.

[A SIDE NOTE: Creating a professional web site, especially for the individual or new entrepreneur, can be both an exhilarating and a terrifying experience. You are, in a sense, saying “Here I am. Take me seriously”. And that ain’t no small thing. So, if you feel yourself getting tense with all these questions and decisions, or a little overwhelmed, take a few minutes. Get up, stretch, and breathe deeply. I’ve been through this too – you’re not alone. And as always, if you have a question or need some advice, don’t hesitate to ask.]

I need to meet with you again, and, if you like we can have a second cup of coffee or just a talk on the phone (your call…no pun intended). I ask a lot of questions, follow them where they lead and get in depth to what you and/or your company is about.

We will also talk about cross-browser support, browser limitations and future technologies that could impact your website.

What you need to provide:
  • Website login information: account name and password.
  • Content: If I’m not writing the content, then you need to provide it.
  • Artwork: Anything and everything you’d like to see on the website. I have a scanner, so if you need pictures scanned, that’s available free of charge.
  • Current marketing material: brochures, letterhead, catalogs, business cards. Anything and everything that has your logo, information and/or brand information on it.

Once I’ve received enough information on where you want to go, I then will disappear for a few days and reappear with one to three mockups for you to review, pick apart and tell me what you like best about them. These mockups come in the form of a link to a GIF file, so no pop down menus and the like will work at this stage, but you can get a sense of the design.

A single mockup is then compiled for your review, and we go through it again.

Now I start coding. The next step may include an entire first run of our site, or just a few pages with your content inside with a few links working – it depends on the complexity of the site. I will send these pages to you via a link off of my site (don’t worry, they aren’t being published yet!), and you can review to your heart’s content. Send me feedback – either email or phone – and we work it until it’s done.

Step 3: Publishing (Yeah, Baby!)

That’s right it’s done. All that hard work, the sweat, the tears…OK, maybe there were a few laughs in there too. Once you have paid completely for your website, I publish it to your website address immediately. Then, unless you specify otherwise, I submit your website to the major search engines.

And that’s it! We’re done! Raise your hand high, bend it over backwards, and give yourself a hearty pat on the back. You’ll have earned it! You’re done!

Well, sort of… Don’t forget my mantra: the web is ever changing, and so should be your website. Moxli can provide content management and traffic analysis to help you keep your website current and successful.
