Moxli Services - Details
Moxli works with you to understand layout, to apply color, to create a look that will bring you more business.
Layout - “to side navigation bar or not to side navigation bar, is that the question?” (Forgive me Shakespeare!) More than just deciding where your clients will click, we identify what needs to go where and why.
Presentation – What will your website convey? What feeling do you want to envoke? Elegance? Playfulness? Logic? Passion? All or some of the above? The right presentation can touch your user on a basic emotional level.
Color Scheme – With over a million colors available, choosing color can get overwhelming. I break down this chaos into manageable pieces by identifying colors such as ‘brights’, ‘nature’, ‘pastels’, etc., and I then work with you to find out which one fits your vision and presentation.
Branding – Your website is all about what you want to project – your image. This is also known as branding. By establishing a clear color scheme, logo and layout presentation, your branding can be effective. It is imperative that we keep branding in mind when creating your website and that we remain consistent with all your current marketing materials.
Dynamic Content – Dynamic Content is a fancy way of saying “forms” and “drop down menus”. By creating dynamic content that is used purposefully, you can create a usable and functional site for your customers (imagine!).
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – There’s a science and an art to not only making search engines find you, but making sure you Stand Out! By identifying key words, placing them correctly within proper tags and content, submitting to engines, and creating external links, we can help your website get noticed.
Compatibility – Different standards in different browsers mean your layout can look differently from browser to browser (i.e. Internet Explorer to Netscape). While some of this is unavoidable, the bulk can be made compatible and I always ensure your site is functional.
Accessibility – We can make your website accessible to those folks who need a bit more help: the elderly, the blind, the mentally impaired, etc. If a large portion of your clientele requires significant accessibility modifications, let Moxli help you design a site that meets these special needs.
Commenting – All the HTML and script files I create are commented (a developer’s term for “described in the source code without being seen by the user”). Just in case you have a hankering to try upkeep a website on your own, or have a Cousin John (hey, I do) that knows a bit of HTML, I comment the code so it is easily readable and editable for those in the know.
Whether you already have a logo, need one upgraded, or need a logo designed for you, Moxli works with you to create a representation of your company and present it in a visually stimulating and effective manner for the web.
Most of my clients prefer to write their own content, and I encourage this. No one knows your biz like you know your biz. But if you’d like some help, maybe a second eye or extra editing, I can assist you with it. Or, if you’re feeling particularly un-verbose, you can have me write the bulk of it.
I can assist you in registering your domain name and finding a reputable, affordable and reliable hosting facility in which to store your website content. Typically, you can expect to pay about $100 for initial hosting set up and then $100 every year thereafter to the hosting facility.
Once your website is complete, I submit your site to the major search engines and directories: Google, Yahoo!, AskJeeves, AOL Search (includes Netscape, Lycos and HotBot), and MSN Search. General submissions is offered free by the search engines. However, the also offer premium services which can be costly, and I can assist you in getting submitted correctly and to the proper places.
The biggest mistake people make is thinking that after the initial launch of a site, they’re finished. (OK, OK, buying Arizona’s Brooklyn Bridge via a spam email might be a bigger mistake…well, maybe.). But in all seriousness, the Web is never static, and neither should be your website.
Content Management - Content will need to be upgraded. I don’t mind if Aunt Faye does it for you (yes, I have an Aunt Faye and, no, she doesn’t do HTML), but if you don’t have someone to help, Moxli can keep your website current.
The Hit Review – For those serious about analyzing where their site traffic comes from and where it is going on their site, I offer a monthly analysis called “The Hit Review”. By analyzing this information we can figure out what is most interesting to your users, where they’re going on your site and where they’re coming from. As always, I offer my not-so-humble suggestions on what you can do with this information.
